Antrim House is pleased to announce that Hill-Stead Museum will feature an Antrim House poet in next summer’s Sunken Garden Poetry Festival. This year the poet will be Elizabeth Thomas. She will read before CT Poet Laureate Dick Allen on Wednesday, July 6. The museum will also offer two workshops conducted by Antrim House poets. The first, on poetry inspired by works of art, will be led by Rennie McQuilkin and will occur from 5:30–9:00 p.m. Wednesday evening, March 23. It will involve readings, a slide show, discussion, a guided tour of the museum’s collection, and a writing assignment (based on a work in the collection) with feedback. The second workshop (led by poet/environmentalist David K. Leff) will occur from 2:00–6:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 23, and will be focused on “nature poetry.” It will feature readings, discussion, a guided field-and-wood nature walk on the museum’s grounds, and a writing assignment with feedback. To learn more about David Leff, visit www.davidkleff.com, and to read about Rennie McQuilkin’s most recent book, winner of the CT Book Award, see www.antrimhousebooks.com/weathering. The fee for each workshop is $25. Space is limited, so register early by contacting Sunken Garden Artistic Director Mimi Madden at maddenm@hillstead.org.

Speaking of Hill-Stead Museum, you will be pleased to know that in addition to presenting Elizabeth Thomas, next summer’s Sunken Garden Poetry Festival will feature poets the likes of Mark Doty, Tony Hoagland, Patricia Smith, and Dick Allen, along with student poets and a host of fine musicians. Connecticut Poetry Society

The Connecticut Poetry Society (CPS), an affiliate of the National Federation of Poetry Societies (NFSPS), is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the promotion and enjoyment of poetry. Our group has a long tradition of excellence in publishing the work of poets from Connecticut and around the nation.

Our mission is to support the art form of poetry with chapter meetings, contests, and poetry events. Membership is not limited to Connecticut residents. One does not have to be a poet to join, just a person willing to dedicate time or money in support of the arts.

Chapters usually meet monthly to workshop original poetry and sponsor readings, lectures or programs in their communities. Browse through our site. To get information about CPS, contact Christine Beck at mailto:connpoetry@comcast.net . The Academy of American Poets has published a "Poetry Map" of America that features photos, events, and information relevant to poetry in each state. Take a look at the Connecticut page by clicking here http://www.poets.org/state.php/varState/CT
